August 7-13, 2005

Camp Emerald Bay

Gear and troop assembled waiting to board the boat for our trip to Catalina Island.

Arriving at the camp dock via water taxi from the boat.

Our campsite for the week was Santa Monica. Well shaded and close to the bathrooms and showers.

Our first troop activity was mountain biking along the road to Two Harbors.

Great view of the camp's waterfront area.

We stopped to look at the view of Indian Rock in the bay.

Matt Y. working on his camping merit badge at the scoutcraft area.

Learning about bows for archery.

Alex takes aim for the clay pigeon with a shotgun.

The oceanography building had lots of fish to look at and a touch tank.

Relaxing in camp and working on merit badge requirements during free time

Mr. Schedine, Mr. Creswell and Mr. Burney went scuba diving.

Another troop activity was snorkling in Doctor's Cove.

We snorkled out and around Doctor's point to the waterfront area.

Troop 679 did the flag ceremony before dinner.

Still working on those merit badges.

Our troop won the “Cleanest Campsite Award”!

Paddling out in the canoes loaded with the gear.

Parson's Beach is about a mile and a half up the island from Emerald Bay.

Taylor, Mr. Hill, Alex and Andrew did the Scuba BSA discovery dive.

The scouts who scuba'ed had to hike over to Parson's Beach.

Playing cards at Parson's Beach after more snorkling.

Dinner was beef stew cooked in a dutch oven.

We made a fire and had a delicious cobbler for dessert.

We slept on the beach under the stars.

The scouts competed in the aquacade games. This was rowing the boat with only hands.

Mr. Cook braved the belly flop competition.

Assembled and ready for the boat ride back to the mainland.

Camp Emerald Bay was awesome!
