Troop 679's Patrol Box Plans

When we go camping, each Patrol is assigned their own Patrol Box. The Patrol Box holds the essential cooking and cleaning equipment for overnight outings. Each Patrol also is given a water jug, propane cylinder and a small table to sit and eat on. The scouts are responsible for providing the food and their own mess kit with a plate, bowl, cup and utensils.

The Troop recently built two new Patrol Boxes and updated the traditional design. The new Patrol Boxes have a better design for the legs, better latching for the doors, more cubby holes, a better place to store the propane tree, and laminate surfaces on the interior. Here are pictures taken during construction of the new Patrol Boxes.

Troop 679 has created a set of complete plans and materials list for these improved Patrol Boxes. The first page of the plans can be downloaded here. The plans were updated with many improvements (Version 8) in 2008. The complete 6 page set of plans are available for a small donation of $10. If you are interested, please send email to plans@troop679.org. We will instruct you on how to make payment and will send the plans in email (zip file with 6 PDF format files).

These plans are the property of Troop 679. We will permit other Scouting organizations to use these plans to build their own Patrol Boxes. We do not authorize the redistribution of these plans to others outside of the group requesting them. We hope that these plans are useful. If you are not satisfied, we will return your donation and ask that you destroy any copies of the plans that you have. We are working on the honor system among Scouters and ask that these arrangements be honored. Troop 679 appreciates your donations and will use funds from this project to keep our equipment properly maintained for our Scouts.

Here is the new design concept.

Below are some photos of a completed Patrol Box.

One door open on the left side.

Plastic storage bins are used to hold anything that might spill.

Filled with the necessary supplies.

The dual door design allows one side to cook and the other side to prepare food or cleanup dishes.

The legs can be inserted horizontally to act as handles for the boys to easily carry the Patrol Box.

Your Scouts will love camping with this Patrol Box!
