Small Boat Sailing

At Fiesta Island, Youth Aquatic Center, June 13-15, 2003

The San Diego Youth Aquatic Center in Mission Bay.

This was the first official outing for our new Scout Equipment Trailer. Plenty of room!

The scouts haul out one of our new design patrol boxes.

The Dragon Patrol laid claim to the new patrol box!

We took up 3 camp sites which were right on the water. A group next to us pitched the big teepee.

John and Lawren tackle the least loved task of camping – cleaning the dishes.

Scouts relaxing by the fire ring.

Bringing down the sailboats from the YAC.

Getting the boats lined up on shore ready for rigging.

Alex and Jason carrying the mast and sail. Taylor brings the centerboards.

After a few attempts at rigging (with some help from the staff) and the sailboats were starting to look seaworthy.

A little bit of instruction and a few rules before we get started sailing.

The early morning wind was light, which helped the scouts get an easy start to learning to sail.

Kayaking was another way to get out on the waters of Mission Bay.

Scouts waiting for their turn to sail. By the end of the day everyone had started to get the hang of sailing!

We will be coming back again this summer for more sailing fun.
