Sheep Canyon Backpacking Trek, February 2007

Mr. Creswell passing out the cooking gear and food.

Making our way over the easy First Crossing.

Starting our backpacking trek from the parking area near Second Crossing.

Making it past Second Crossing.

We made it to the Sheep Canyon primitive campground!

On the trail from Sheep Canyon to Cougar Canyon.

The bottom of Cougar Canyon was riddled with huge boulders and lots of water.

Looking back down Cougar canyon you can see two morteros in the rock that were used by the ancient Indians to grind acorns.

The hike up Cougar canyon was mostly over big boulders and debris from past flash floods.

We managed to find the Indian Cave where this faint pictograph of a man was drawn with charcoal.

Brendan and his dad pose by one of the many waterfalls in the canyon.

Hiking back to Sheep Canyon which is around the corner on the left. There is actually snow on the peaks of the Santa Rosa mountains in the distance.

Back at camp cooking dinner.

Some of the scouts slept out under the stars even though it was pretty cold that night.

Our primitive campite had just a table and some metal fire containers.

The next morning we hiked from our campsite up to the Palm grove visible here in Sheep Canyon.

Getting up Sheep Canyon involved lots of bushwacking and bouldering.

Making our way up and over the many large boulders that line the canyon floor.

It was easier climbing on the sides of the canyon.

Looking back down Sheep Canyon toward the campground.

There was lots of very slippery and polished rock in the canyon.

The upper Palm Grove of Sheep Canyon.

We filtered more water here for the hike back.
