Young Eagles Aviation Outing - May 11, 2002

Troop 679 visited Chapter 14 of the Experimental Aviation Association at Brown Airfield. The EAA has a program called Young Eagles that has a goal of giving a million kids their first ride in a small airplane. The boys got to all take their first flight in a small aircraft and they also worked on earning their Aviation merit badges.

We are ready to go! Weather looks good for flying!

The boys got to see a Pietenpol airplane that is under construction.

Alex checks out a small single seater airplane.

The boys all sat through a preflight briefing and were issued their boarding passes for the flight.

First step for the flight is the airplane preflight check.

Matt and Alex in the back seat. Nathan in the copilot position.

Everyone buckled in and ready. The pilot gets in last.

The airplane taxis out to the runway for take off.

Matt M. got the special ride in this Kolb Firestar 2 seat aircraft. He had the best view!

Another group gets ready to get on board for their flight.

First group is back and the first question is: can we go again?

Another thumbs up assessment from Joe, Dylan and Jason.

Ryan and Taylor are proud new Young Eagles.

Ian got to go up in a 2 seater Piper Tomahawk.

Alec had his flight in a Cessna 140 taildragger.

Jesse and Kevin are all smiles after their flight.

The boys were treated to a hot dog lunch at the hospitality hangar.

Troop 679 had a great time. Big thanks go out to EAA Chapter 14 for putting on a great Young Eagles program!
